PHILOPTOCHOS NEWS

Dear Parishioners,

I hope you all had a glorious Christmas and Healthy New Year. This is the time of year for us all to remember our many blessings and I am proud to be able to include all the ladies of St. Irene Philoptochos among my blessings.  Thank you ladies for all your support and many accomplishments during the year 2009.
It was a pleasure for our ladies of Philoptochos to visit St. Michael’s Home of the Elderly along with all the other organizations of our community, on Tuesday December 29
th.   As part of our tradition, gifts were given  to all the residents and we all sang Christmas and New Year Carols. The elderly enjoyed the fantastic Greek pastries, the Bouzuki  music playing and the singing and dancing of our youth.  A special thank you to our Sunday School Director Karen Scoullos for doing a great job in coordinating this trip.
Our annual Christmas Party took place January 4
th at Season’s.  We had an outstanding turnout with over 58 ladies attending the party. The food was excellent, the entertainment was magnificent; everyone that attended had a wonderful time.  I would like to thank Amy Papaloukas for doing an exceptional job in organizing the party.

The holidays are also a time for traditions. One of the most joyful traditional celebrations is the cutting of Vasilopita.  Our community celebrated the Vasilopita gathering on January 3, 2010.  After the Divine Liturgy, St. Irene Philoptochos hosted the coffee social, and as every year, a special tray was passed for the benefit of St. Basil Academy.

Our first fundraiser for 2010 is our Tricky Tray which will take place on Tuesday March 9
th at 6:30 pm in our community center. Once again, we are asking you to support this event by either donating a gift or make a contribution to help offset the cost. Our charitable activities could not have been successful without your help and participation.

Again, thank you for your continuous support.   I wish each and every one of you and your families a Happy and Healthy New Year!

With love in Christ,

Ann Kamvosoulis
President
