The History of St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church
If one would contemplate the Greek history or Hellenism in America, the reason why the Greek immigrants kept Orthodoxy and the Hellenic heritage and spirit alive through the years, would be very easily understood. The existence of more than 500 Greek communities in our nation is due to the deep belief and faith that our ancestors held for these two ideals (Orthodoxy and Hellenism). The deep faith that our ancestors had in God, and the nostalgia for their mother countries of Greece and Cyprus, were the reasons for the continuation of the Greek language, education, and traditions in this country. These two ideals led to the establishment of the Greek Orthodox Community of St. Athanasios in Paterson, NJ.
