F.O.S. News
We are excited to let you know about a "new" parish ministry that has been undertaken under the guidance of Father Anargyros. On March 26, 2010, we formed an organization called "FOS". FOS (Light) is a Parish Ministry (organization) within St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church. The purpose of FOS is to promote the Orthodox Faith within and outside the parish. Our goal is to share the "light" of Christ with those who thirst for more knowledge and spirituality. Our activities will include organizing, maintaining and promoting the parish library; promoting the parish bookstore, recruit instructors for Sunday Church School, sponsor spiritual talks/discussions with guest speakers, sponsor parish fairs for books and religious items, produce audio cassettes with lives of Saints and other spiritual subjects, organize visitation to nursing homes, and trips to Orthodox Spiritual Centers.
Membership is open to all Orthodox Christians in good standing (to be determined by the Parish Priest). If you are interested in becoming a member of this organization, you can do so by submitting your name in writing to Fr. Anargyros. Membership donation is $10 annually.
The founding members of this organization are Fr. Anargyros Stavropoulos, Thea Portelos, Karen Scoullos, Penelope Roumantzas, Vasili Fikaris, Chrysoula Lele, Dr. Theodore Constandelis and Paul Toronidis. At our initial meeting we elected Paul Toronidis, as President to lead this organization. Chrysoula Lele is the treasurer, Thea Portelos is the Secretary. We are looking forward to quickly establishing the parish bookstore, and will have a table with books and religious wares at our festival.
Congratulations to the new FOS Board!
PRESIDENT: Karen Scoullos
TREASURER: Thea Portelos
SECRETARY: Christina Georgotas
